Bear Hug Blanket – Crochet Pattern

The Bear Hug Blanket is a new individual pattern that coordinates with the Interchangeable Wildlife Blanket ebook. These blanket patterns all feature a striking animal silhouette and is framed with a beautiful crochet cable textures in a frame (border) of the blanket.

The Bear Hug blanket was inspired by the cute cabin decor that is found on store shelves right now. Nearly anyone who love the great outdoors and wants that “warmth of home” or a “weekend at the cabin” feel will fall in love with this design.

bear hug crochet blanket pattern

The design of the blanket features a mirrored detail of twisting cables separated by lines of detail. The corner pieces of this blanket feature the same straight lines that pop and bring the sides together. This is a more modern corner piece than the other wildlife designs.

About the Pattern

I used Lion Brand Heartland yarn for the beautiful rich brown. I love working with this yarn because it is soft, works up nicely, makes your stitches stand out and washes up well. For the white background color it is essential that you either use the same brand and weight of yarn, or use a yarn that has the same WIP (wraps per inch). I used Caron Simply Soft for the background resulting in 2 different yarns that worked well together.

The main silhouette panel has multiple formats in the pattern for you to choose from. A chart, or graph, is used to crochet the bear silhouette. At the end of the pattern, there is an included enlarged graph, simply print off all 4 pages and tape them together.

If you are unfamiliar with crocheting from a graph then a supplement has been added to the pattern to assist you along the way. The supplement is a written form of the graph and is explained in a little more detail. Essentially, it states how many stitches to complete in each color. This supplement can also be used as a way to double check the accuracy of your work.

Interchangeable Wildlife Blankets – Crochet Pattern Bundle

Growing up in one of the most beautiful states, Idaho, I have a deep love of the outdoors. The forests and mountains are where I feel the most relaxed and recharged. Watching wildlife is always so mesmerizing and I wanted to capture that in a handmade crochet blanket.

A blanket is used to wrap yourself up and keep you cozy and warm, howeder, it can also be displayed across the back of a couch, on a blanket ladder or just draped across a bench. Essentially, it can be turned into a piece of art. No matter what you do with the blanket, these wildlife blankets are a masterpiece.

Interchangeable Wildlife Blankets

The Interchangeable Wildlife Blanket Bundle is a unique set of crochet patterns. Each blanket features a bold silhouette of a animal found in the forest, the animal stands out against a contrasting background. The wildlife animal is then framed with a tich textured border to finish off your masterpiece.

Why do you call the Wildlife Blankets bundle “interchangeable”?

INTERCHANGEABLE [in-ter-cheyn-juh-buh-l]: adjective

1. capable of being put or used in the place of each other:interchangeable symbols.

2. capable of replacing or changing places with something else:an interchangeable part.

source: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/interchangeable

Each piece of the blankets can be changed out for the same pieces of another blanket. Each pattern is a stand alone pattern, but they are all made the same size so they can be interchanged.

Wildlife Animal Silhouette Information and Options

The main silhouette panel has multiple formats for you to choose from. A chart, (or graph), is included to help create the wildlife animal silhouette, in addition, at the end of each pattern the graph has been enlarged so you can print it off on 4 pages and tape together for a larger format you can follow.

There are 5 different animal silhouettes that you can pick to crochet. Each one is very distinguishable and pops with a bold contrast in colors, therefore, it may be a tough decision. Now choose from a: fish, moose, bear, wolf or deer.

Wildlife Animal Silhouettes

However, If you are not familiar with crocheting from a graph, I have also included a quick written out reference. This is a written form of the graph and is explained in detail with how many stitches in each color to work. This piece of the pattern can also be a good way to double check your work.

Choose one of the Textures Side Panels

Once you have chosen a silhouette you can then pick one of the beautiful textured side panels. These panels are used to frame out the silhouettes, because they run along each side, top and bottom of the blanket creating an astounding look!

Pick a Corner Square

The corner pieces of your blanket can be detailed or simple, however, they all can look very pleasing with any of the panels. The possibilities are endless. Which corner square is your favorite?

I hope you get excited about all the possibilities in designing your own blanket. I need to mention that all these designs (with the exception of the fish on blanket) are available in a book by Leisure Arts. If you have already purchased this book, then you will only need to add the Fish On Blanket to your collection.

Where to get the patterns for the Interchangeable Wildlife Blankets Bundle

I hope you enjoy crocheting these masterpieces and seeing them come to life. As you work all the pieces and seam them together, the result in each step, is a rewarding process. I would love to see your finished blankets, so please share them in my Crochet & Conversations group (info to join is below).

Cropped Motif Cardigan – Crochet Pattern

The Cropped Motif Cardigan is an ideal light layer to cut the chill off on spring days. Designed to be a lightweight layer the cardigan will become a staple in your closet.

Designed in a unique square motif style the cardigan is easy to make in steps or on the go. Each square features a flirty floral design that gives is a perfect look of spring and will coordinate with most attire.

Cropped Motif Cardigan

The versatility of the cardi is endless. Pair it with a lightweight long sleeve shirt, like my daughter did (above image) and it works as a vest. Wear it over a spring sleeveless dress or tank top to add a little warmth.

About the Cropped Motif Cardigan Pattern

The cropped design is seen in the capped/cropped sleeves that cover the shoulder and in the length falling mid body. If you prefer a longer cardigan, you could add an additional row of motifs, however, I have not made one. If you do, I would love to see how it turns out.

The pattern comes in adult sizes ranging from Adult Small up to XLarge.

Made in a light (#3) weight yarn and a crochet hook H (5.00 mm) and crochet hook I (5.5 mm), the Cardigan works up quicker than you might think.

Collana Lace Cowl – Crochet Pattern

With cool weather still lingering on it is nice to add a new neck warmer to your accessory pile. I am in love with the newest crochet design, the Collana Lace Cowl.

As I sat down to design a new cowl style neck warmer, I began with some beautiful shimmery yarn by Lion Brand, called, Summer Nights. When you see and feel this yarn you know it will be ideal for an elegant accessory.

Collana Lace Cowl Long Option

The Collana Lace Cowl made in the Lion Brand Summer Night yarn had to be a long design, almost worn as a necklace. In fact, the word Collana is an Italian word that means, “necklace”, according to the Cambridge Dictionary.

Collana Lace Necklace or More Cowl?

I love the softness and the slight shimmer of the Cowl, it is ideal for a cool day. However, after I made my first cowl we had a huge storm that dropped the temperatures to below freezing. I was in need of something warmer.

After looking in my stash of yarn I found a lovely skein of Cloudborn Alpaca Wool Silk Fingering yarn. Oh my, this was so warm and had a unique look to it. I knew I wanted to make another cowl with the exact same stitch but shorter so that it would be closer to the neckline.

Collana Lace Cowl Short Version

Long or Short? That is the Question.

I fell in love again with the short version. It is crazy how the same cowl pattern can be made to have two completely different looks. The stitches work up the same but with different textures the yarns make the appearance of the cowl completely different.

About the Collana Lace Cowl Pattern

The pattern comes in two sizes that will fit most people. Both styles are made using a super fine (#1) weight yarn and is crocheted using a crochet hook size H (5.00 mm) hook.

For the longer version plan on using up to 375 yards. Where as the short version only used about 300 yards of yarn. The pattern could be altered to be longer or shorter because it gives you the number of stitches to either increase or decrease by.

Winter Wishes Scarf – Crochet Pattern

The Winter Wishes Scarf is one of my favorite cozy scarves I have designed. It crochet design shows off one of my favorite thing… lots and lots of texture!

I made the scarf in a classic grey and it shows off the stitches and design so well. An easy button helps the scarf stay in place as it warms your neck on those brisk days. The optional fringe keeps the classic look of a winter accessory. You can dress up the Winter Wishes Scarf or keep it simple by switching up the button from a wooden to a sparkly gem filled button (see samples of this further in the post).

Winter Wishes Scarf Crochet Pattern

The Winter Wishes Scarf can be worn with a simple tee and jeans or with a black dress. It really is that versatile. Your loved ones will enjoy unwrapping this lovely scarf this holiday season, and there is a good chance it will be tried on right away.

About the Winter Wishes Scarf Pattern

The pattern comes in one size only that will fit most people. It is made in a worsted weight (#4) yarn and is crocheted with a size I (5.50 mm) hook.

In the sample of the Winter Wishes Scarf, I used Cloudborn Superwash Highland Worsted yarn. it is a beautiful, soft yarn that created amazing texture. The yarn is wool so it is nice and warm. Unlike most wool, the Cloudborn is NOT itchy at all. Check out the beautiful colors offered by clicking this (affiliate) LINK HERE.

Use Different Yarns for a Different Look

I am so excited to share with you all the amazing scarfs my pattern testers made. They used different yarns and you can see how beautiful they are in different colorways and yarn brands.

Winter Wishes Scarf made in Plymouth yarns Hot Cakes

Tester, Stephanie Robinson, used Plymouth Yarns Hot Cakes (color: denim mix) on her Winter Wishes Scarf. It is a lovely self striping yarn and I love it in the rich blues with earthy neutral tones.

Brandi, owner of Craft Creations, tested the Winter Wishes Scarf and used Caron Big Cakes in the color, Grape Jelly. Such a fun and rich colorway to use on the design, Brandi did an amazing job.

Fish On Blanket – Crochet Pattern

Releasing a new pattern is always a nervous moment because I question whether others will love it as much as I do. As I release the Fish On Blanket today, I am pretty confident this one will be loved by many. I poured so much energy and love into this design that I made for my hubby.

The Fish On Blanket was designed as a new matching afghan to the entire Wildlife Cables Afghan Book. The striking silhouettes of the animals with an intricate border make designs appeal to many. Anyone who love the great outdoors and wants that “warmth of home” or a “weekend at the cabin” feel will think this blanket is a show stopper.

Fish On Blanket Crochet Pattern

The design of the blanket features a detailed and intricate frame that has twisting cables and an eye catching pattern. Likewise, the corner piece has a touch of whimsical charm. It is designed in a circle pattern that features a little more elegant look of maybe a wildflower. Well, that is kind of what I think of as I sit streamside watching my husband fish.

Fish On Side Panels    Fish On Corner Square

About the Pattern

I used Premier Yarn in Christmas Green and White for the Fish On Blanket. I really liked working in this yarn, it gave the blanket a little more of a plush feel than the other wildlife blankets. The bright, but not too bright, color of the Christmas Green was just what I was hoping for and it paired perfectly with the stark white contrast of the silhouette background.

The main silhouette panel has multiple formats for you to choose from. A chart, or graph, is included to help create the fish silhouette. At the end of the pattern the graph has been enlarged so you can print it off on 4 pages and tape together for a larger format you can follow.

However, If you are not familiar with crocheting from a graph, a supplement has been added to the pattern. The supplement is a written form of the graph and is explained in detail, but essentially, it states how many stitches in each color to work. This piece of the pattern can also be a good way to double check your work.

I chose testicular cancer because my son has it.  He has been fighting it since January 2010.  He is back to receiving treatment after being in remission for a couple of years.  So, for me this hits very close to home.
I also lost a grandpa to lung cancer, a grandpa to brain cancer, a grandma to breast cancer, and an Uncle to bone cancer.  Cancer is all around us, not one of us has not had it personally touch our lives.  Even I have had my own battle with cervical cancer, and later pre-cancerous cells in my uterus, ovaries, and cervix that resulted in a radical hysterectomy…but no other treatment, thankfully.

Crochet from a Graph: learn today

I am hosting a LIVE session in my Crochet & Conversations group about how to crochet from a chart! That’s right. I have received so many requests regarding this topic. I finally decided it was time to sit down and do some show & tell.

Where can I watch the LIVE video?

The Facebook LIVE will be hosted in my Crochet & Conversations group on Facebook. This is a fun and interactive group of fellow crocheters. We chat about, post about, and see everything about crochet. We support one another and cheer one another on as we learn new things. That is why this session will be hosting in this supportive group. You can join now by clicking HERE.

pattern group

What do I need?

The LIVE session will be visual based. But, you are welcome to work along with me as I show the details. I will be working slow so you can see each step of the way. If this is your very first time trying to crochet from a chart it may be helpful to just watch and then watch the replay and work along side me.

All you will need to work along with me is some small amounts of yarn. A smaller crochet hook, I will probably be using a Crochet Hook H (5.00 mm) and a crochet graph to work off of. I have created a small graph that goes with the upcoming holiday to practice with. Click this link to download and print an easy crochet Jack-O-Lantern graph to try out.

Let me know how it goes

I would love to hear how your progress is going with this new skill set. There are so many amazing patterns that are worked using charts. Knowing how to crochet from a graph will allow you to crochet from so many more patterns, you will be very thankful once you have it mastered.

Want to Try a Bigger Project?

One of my best selling patterns uses this crocheting from a graph method. It also will use the same stitches that I showed in my LIVE tutorial so you can see how I worked it up. Check out my Deerly Beloved Blanket by clicking this LINK.

Deep Waters Prayer Shawl CAL

During the month of September, I will be hosting a Crochet Along. The Crochet Along will feature a Prayer Shawl with beautiful textures and natural color changes.

The design of the prayer shawl is to be appealing to the eye. It has a subtle pattern change within the color changes. The stitches create a top that gives you the warmth your body needs. While the lower portion of the shawl is an open, flowy stitch that provides a beautiful drape and open look. I just love the design and hope you do to.

What is a Prayer Shawl?

You may be asking yourself, What is a Prayer Shawl. I found this beautiful description from the Lion Brand website:

Prayer shawl. Peace shawl. Comfort shawl. Mantle. Whatever name you give them, they serve the same purpose. These are a wearable hug crafted with love and intent from maker to recipient. Whether it be personal words, verse, song, prayer, mantra, or something else, it is these thoughts imbued in the shawl with each stitch that make them what they are.

Lion Brand Website ( http://www.lionbrand.com/blog/what-is-a-prayer-shawl/ )

I couldn’t have explained it better myself. It’s a “Wearable Hug” that has been crocheted, with thoughts and prayers, of the recipient through the entire process of making the shawl. For this design, that process will include a crochet along format.

What is a Crochet Along?

A crochet along, also known as a CAL, is a group of people who work on making the same project together at the same pace. The wonderful part about online, is that we can do this with a larger group of people who enjoy our same craft of crochet. We have the ability to show our progress with one another and cheer each other on, all while being in the comfort of our own homes.

The Candy Corn hat pattern comes in sizes from newborn up to adult. You can make one of these fall hats for everyone in the family including the neighbors down the street.

3 Different Cable Golf Club Covers

The crochet pattern includes 3 covers, each cover is a different size with a different design. The Cable Golf Club Covers are made to fit the following clubs: Hybrid (small), Wood (medium) & the Driver (large). You can make the set all one color or coordinate with 3 different ones. Then customize them with an optional pom to throw in a little more color if you like!

The Cable Golf Club Covers are made using Worsted Weight Yarn and Crochet Hook H (5.00 mm), the only other tool you may need is a 2″ pom maker (but that is totally optional). Fall in love with crocheting cables as each cover features an easy yet striking look in the textures and weaves of the stitches.

Teachers Take Note – Crochet Gift Set

Teacher Appreciation Week is fast approaching! This year it is May 6-10, 2019. We all know how wonderful and amazing those folks that teach, inspire and love our children all day long are. So we like to devote an entire week to show them how much we appreciate them. Now, the dreaded question, what do I get them?

Teachers Take Note Snap Pouches Gift Set

I designed this fun and unique set just for teachers, but could also be given to writers, librarians, or anyone who enjoys writing. The Snap Pouch is a fun way to create a small carrying case. The top of each pouch simple “snaps” shut! The set includes a snap pouch that looks like a notebook paper, another snap pouch that looks like a pencil and then it is topped off with a cute apple cozy.

I love to include new techniques and stitches in my patterns and of course I created a couple easy to follow YouTube tutorials to go along with the pattern. This set will even introduce you to the fun technique of Tunisian crochet (yes there is a video to show you just how to do it), no special hook is needed though for this pattern.

  • An old tape measure that is at least 3/4″ wide
  • Tin Snips (or old scissors that you don’t mind ruining)
