Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

I love playing with popular stitches and trying to make them unique and put a twist on them. I had an idea in my mind and was trying to come up with a fun stitch and ended up creating a knotted stitch while crocheting the Herringbone stitch.

Fall in love with the bold texture and soft cushy feel to the stitch. So, I jumped in and quickly designed a fun infinity cowl and coordinating ear warmer pattern. I am so excited to share with you the Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer crochet pattern.

About the Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer

I love crocheting any herringbone stitch but I like to put a new spin on stitches or on the way they are used. I fell in love with the way these knotted stitches appeared see how or bold they look while feeling so soft and warm. You will fall in love with making this cowl and then you will want a matching ear warmer to go along with it.

Herringbone Knotted Stitch

The pattern can be worked holding 2 strands of a very light worsted weight yarn together (I used Mighty Stitch which is very close to a DK weight yarn). Or you can use a heavy worsted weight yarn to make the set. Then have fun with the colors and scramble them up as I did (details on color changes are in the pattern) or make it a solid color or use a self striping or ombre yarn, the possibilities are endless for different looks with this pattern.

About the Pattern

The pattern comes in One Size Fits Most for the cowl and an Adult sized Ear Warmer/Headband pattern.

The cowl can be worn multiple ways as shown below, I just can’t decide which is my favorite.

I had some of my pattern testers share their tests with me and I love the colors they used and how each one shows an entirely different personality.

Winter Wishes Cowl – Crochet Pattern

The popular Winter Wishes Scarf and Headband inspired another design using the same rich textured stitches. The Winter Wishes Cowl is made as an oversize cowl that is so warm and cozy.

The Cowl can be made with or without fringe so it will suit your style. Have it lay nicely capping the shoulders for a warm layer or wear it as a triangle scarf (more of a hang around the neck) for a cozy feel. Either way, you will love the look.

The Winter Wishes Scarf is one of my favorite cozy scarves I have designed. It crochet design shows off one of my favorite thing… lots and lots of texture!

I made the scarf in a classic grey and it shows off the stitches and design so well. An easy button helps the scarf stay in place as it warms your neck on those brisk days. The optional fringe keeps the classic look of a winter accessory. You can dress up the Winter Wishes Scarf or keep it simple by switching up the button from a wooden to a sparkly gem filled button (see samples of this further in the post).

Tester, Stephanie Robinson, used Plymouth Yarns Hot Cakes (color: denim mix) on her Winter Wishes Scarf. It is a lovely self striping yarn and I love it in the rich blues with earthy neutral tones.

Brandi, owner of Craft Creations, tested the Winter Wishes Scarf and used Caron Big Cakes in the color, Grape Jelly. Such a fun and rich colorway to use on the design, Brandi did an amazing job.

Knot Your Average Bag – Crochet Pattern

Using the traditional Japanese Style Bag to design the latest crochet pattern from Sweet Potato 3, I am excited to share with you the, “Knot Your Average Bag”. A fun and unique style combined with some super fun stitches that look like bows or diamonds or just a whimsical design.

Knot Crochet Bag Pattern

Knot Your Average Bag designed Just for YOU

The style of this handbag design was a special request. A member in the Crochet & Conversations FB group (Join HERE) requested a traditional Knot Bag. When she suggested this knot style bag I knew it had to be designed and it had to be fun. My hope is that that this crochet pattern inspires you to “make one just for yourself”! Many crocheters never crochet anything for themselves, but this project was designed just for you <3

Where did you find that Yarn?

Made in a worsted weight yarn the Knot Your Average Bag works up with about 400 yards of your favorite yarn. Finding a yarn that is ideal for a crochet bag can be a challenge. I was lucky enough to have a few hanks of Cloudborn Superwash Merino Worsted yarn sent to me and I knew it was going to be perfect for the Knot Your Average Bag pattern.

What makes the Design Unique

Featuring two straps of varying lengths is the key to the Knot Your Average Bag design. Simply pull the longer strap through the short strap and it naturally closes and opens with ease. A short strap acts as the closure. While the longer strap is the handle. You can easily customize this for your ideal bag. Leave the handle short to use as a wristlet. A medium length is great for a traditional handbag as shown in the modeled photos. Crochet the strap extra long for a cross body bag. The options are endless.
