There’s something deeply comforting about the season of Advent—soft candlelight, gentle carols, and the quiet reminder of the “reason for the season.” The Silent Night Pillow Cover brings that gentle spirit into your home. With the words “Silent Night” crocheted across the front, a humble manger tucked into one corner, and the north star shining in the opposite, this pillow captures the peaceful beauty of that holy silent night.
Crafted from two square crochet pieces sewn (or “semmed”) together—just like the layout of the classic square-finish pillow cover format—you’ll enjoy creating both the front color-changing square and the more simplistic solid color back. It’s part of a cohesive holiday décor set and makes a perfect companion piece to your shimmering “Adore Christmas Blanket Pattern.” The blanket highlights the manger and star theme, and now your pillow brings that sentiment into your living room nook or favorite chair.

Whether you’re preparing for a quiet winter evening, gathering loved ones for holiday memories, or simply adding one more meaningful handmade piece to your home, this pillow cover is a charming way to reflect the heart of Christmas through crochet.
Knotted Half Double Crochet Stitch & Color-Changes
Have you made a graph crochet project using single crochet or even the half double crochet and said, “That took forever, never again!”. I don’t blame you, which is exactly why my graph designs (since 2018) use the knotted half double crochet (khdc) stitch. It works up much quicker but allows for more detail (and less choppiness) than a traditional C2C graph design.

The stitch is the height of a regular half-double crochet, maybe even slightly taller, and it is a thicker stitch, leaving a warm, cozy feeling that is ideal for blankets. It also creates seamless color changes that I enjoy working with. Did you just get nervous when I said, “color changes”? You’re not the only one.
Since the stitch is new to so many crocheters and color change seems to be intimidating, I wanted to help you out. This summer, I created a course that teaches you everything you need to know about working the khdc and working seamless color changes. Build your confidence to make blankets like the Adore Christmas blanket and my other 30+ designs.

Silent Night Pillow Cover Materials Needed
To make the Silent Night Pillow cover, there are a few things to note. The pillow can be made in 2 different sizes. They are crocheted exactly the same, but the size will vary from an 18-inch square form to a 14-inch square form, depending on whether you use worsted or DK/sport weight yarn.
The worsted weight will result in a larger pillow form. Whereas the DK/sport weight yarn will leave you with a 14-inch pillow form. The size will also be adjusted to achieve the size you want.
