Mosaic crochet has become so popular over the last few years. It creates a very intricate pattern in the stitches making the designs look difficult. However, as you work each row (while using one color at a time) and alternating between single and double crochets, the designs take shape. Before you know it a gorgeous piece has been created. My latest Mosaic piece was designed with a “June” theme and I focused on the Summer Solstice.

In the Summer Solstice pattern you can work any number of repeats from one ‘sun’ to multiple ‘suns’ with a fun section of stitches that look similar to an hourglass.

Since prehistory, the summer solstice has been a significant time of year in many cultures, and has been marked by festivals and rituals. Traditionally, in temperate regions (especially Europe), the summer solstice is seen as the middle of summer and referred to as midsummer; although today in some countries and calendars it is seen as the beginning of summer.

The sun obviously represents the day of the year with the most Sunshine! The hourglass represents the “middle of summer” , if you rotate the hourglass and wait, you will eventually get to the Winter Solstice.

When Emilee approached me and asked if I would like to be one of the designers I was so excited. I typically don’t design Mosaic crochet patterns, but get requests to do so all the time. So this was a great opportunity for my followers.

I signed up for the month of June and knew right away that I wanted to celebrate the Summer Solstice with a fun Sun pattern design, but I had to add a big of traditional mosaic design to keep it fun, interesting and catching to the eye! I hope you love it as much as I do.
