Adding a touch of handmade to any room gives a sense of warmth and love. Some may say it is because they know someone put time and love into making it. Others claim it is the textures and character they show off. While others just simply love that it is not from a big box store. Anyway you look at it, handmade is a positive aspect of home decor.

I recently was part of a collaboration with 12 crochet designers where we all came up with a stitch combination and created a gorgeous blanket (I’ll share that in just a bit-keep reading). These are always fun events because I feel like I push myself a little to come up with something unique and fun.

Once I saw how lovely the project turned out, I was inspired to create a coordinating crochet pattern. I went right to work to create the Twist of Serenity Crochet Pillow Cover pattern for all of you…

Why the Twist of Serenity?

There are many reasons I love this pillow cover. First off, yes, those stitches are a rich texture that I know you’ll love as much as I do. But it is also made in a square pattern (crocheted in rounds that join and has flat edges). I adore this look, but as I was sewing it together, I felt like it needed a little something more. So, I threw a cute button accent onto the center.

The button created a pinch in the middle of the pillow and once I added it, I knew why it meant so much to me. The new addition reminds me of a pillow my Great Grandmother had made. I don’t have any pictures of it, but the images are set in my mind, and I can totally visualize it.

The twist of serenity comes from the construction of the stitches for this textured pattern. You will crochet a repeat of four (4) rows. In one of those rows, you will crochet a chain loop, then in a following row you will twist that chain loop to create this amazing texture.

The Serenity Blanket CAL

Now that you have fallen in love with the pillow, I want to share the blanket project I already mentioned to you. Again, this is a crochet along that was a collaboration of 12 crochet designers. You can see the sections and how they are divided up, but it amazes me at how lovely they all look together.
