There’s something timeless and freeing about wildflowers — growing wherever the wind carries their seeds, blooming boldly in unexpected places. The Be a Wildflower Crochet Blanket captures that same spirit of beauty, strength, and individuality in a design that feels both nostalgic and inspiring.

This blanket features my signature split silhouette style, a look that has become a favorite in my popular Music to My Soul and Woodland Blanket collections. Framed within that silhouette is a field of delicate, familiar wildflowers — the kind that instantly bring back memories of childhood summers, open fields, and the simple joy of being surrounded by nature’s quiet beauty.

Whether you’re drawn to its peaceful floral imagery, its symbolic message of growth and freedom, or its artistic design, the Be a Wildflower Blanket is a project that will truly speak to your heart.

Let each stitch remind you to grow freely, bloom where you’re planted, and always — be a wildflower.

About the Design

The Wildflower Blanket uses my signature color-changing crochet technique, giving the design crisp lines and dynamic details that make the flowers all unique and defined. This technique if fun to crochet and is worked in rows (not corner 2 corner). The stitches are larger and thicker than a traditional single crochet graph pattern leaving the blanket to be less time consuming and even more cozy.

Materials Needed for the Wildflower Blanket

  • 2800 yards of Yarn: DK, Sport, Worsted weight yarn (2 colors in equal weight-see note below)
    • The sample shown was made using the yarn listed below. Although Caron Simply Soft is listed as a
worsted weight (#4) yarn, it is a finer worsted. Whereas the Prism yarn is technically a #3 weight yarn, these yarns work up to the same gauge and have the same WIP (wraps per inch). It is essential to make sure your yarn weights are almost identical to make your gauge match throughout the blanket. Another yarn that works really well with the Prism yarn is Mary Maxim MellowSpun DK, I just opted to use what I had on hand.
    • 1200 yards Caron Simply Soft Yarn/color: white (4 skeins)
    • 1200 yards Mary Maxim Prism Yarn/color: wild orchard (5 skeins)
  • Size K/3/6.50mm crochet hook
  • Size I/5/5.50 mm crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Measuring Tape
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
