I have always felt that music is an important part of life. The best way to appreciate music is to play an instrument. Growing up I took piano lessons for 5 years. Now as a Mom, all 3 of my children play an instrument.

When a musician learns to read, play and perform music, they gain mental, cognitive and emotional health benefits that will last throughout their lifetime.

The benefits of music amazes me, if your interested in reading more about the benefits of music, click HERE.

I wanted to emphasize to children how much I love that they all play an instrument. Therefore I combined my crochet skills and came up with the Music to My Soul Blankets.

Behind the Designs of the Music Blankets

Whenever I sit down to crochet a new design I research and see what is already out there. I saw many graph piano blankets and even some C2C guitar blankets. However, I wanted something different and needed something completely new. I was in search for a fun, funky, unique, modern and young vibe.

I finally decided on the split silhouette of instruments resulting in that modern twist. Next I knew my kids wouldn’t want traditional colors, therefore the popularity of self striping yarns was a natural pick. I couldn’t be more happy with the results.

The gorgeous color changes in the Red Heart Roll with It Melange yarn was just what I was hoping for. The yarn worked up lovely and was a huge success with the overall look of the finished blankets. However, finding the ideal white/contrasting yarn was a bit difficult, but I finally found it and the blankets worked up great.

Red Heart Roll with It Melange

Aa soon as the pattern was released, the white/ contrasting yarn was discontinued. Thankfully, with the popularity of these blanket designs many of you have messaged me with yarn that has worked great as a substitute, you can check out the following yarns:

One of the most difficult parts of this blanket was finding a unique stitch that would work in the graph. It was important to me to work the design from the bottom up and horizontal rows. I finally found a fun, easy and quick stitch that stacks directly on top of the stitch from the prior row. This results in the best graph with nice lines.

Vibrato Violin Blanket

The Violin was my first design that I crocheted. My oldest son really wanted me to use purple and the Red Heart Roll with It Melange (color: Autograph) was perfect. The name of this blanket is self explained, thanks to Shanan for the suggestion:

vi·bra·to/vəˈbrädō/a rapid, slight variation in pitch in singing or playing some musical instruments, producing a stronger or richer tone.”a clean, light sound without vibrato”

The diagonal design really accentuates the violin and bow, after this blanket was completed I could hardly wait to make the next one.

Grandioso Guitar Blanket

My guitar player is my 2nd son, he loves trying new songs out and is a great musician. He is a very cheerful kiddo and so I was immediately drawn to the Red Heat Roll with It Melange (color: Paparazzi). Wanting different angles than the violin, I had the silhouette split center of the guitar by to one side of the blanket for a unique look. The blanket is reversible (all the designs are) so the guitar can be on the left or the right side.

The name Grandioso was suggested by, Chasity, as soon as I heard it I knew this had to be the official name. Grandioso is Spanish for “Great” and this just fits this blanket and the kiddo it was designed for.

Piano Pizzazz Blanket

What a fun way to describe the jazzy colors in the Piano blanket (name suggested by Angela)! My daughter is the pianist in our family and saying she is the Pizzazz in the household is an understatement-LOL.

The piano blanket has the keys laying along the top or the bottom edge. In my sample photos the piano keys are shown along the bottom of the blanket. However, with no adjustments the keys can lay along the top of the blanket resulting in the keys being at your hands when you pull the blanket over you!

    Such beautiful blankets!

  2. Anne

Will be starting with the guitar blanket as soon as my yarn is delivered tomorrow! I would absolutely LOVE a banjo design if you’re ever looking to create more.

  3. Kristine

Since I am a percussion player, I would really like to see something with drums and/or cymbals.

  4. Cheryl Begey

Do you have a trumpet pattern? My daughter teaches at Julliard and plays the trumpet. She would love this!

I have plans to design the graphs for more instruments so stay tuned 🙂

I would love to see some type of percussion. My son is in middle school and is playing snare and bells (xylophone) and also marching in the high school marching band playing cymbals this year

  6. Angie
