Christmas Tree Skirt Crochet Pattern Round Up

With the holidays quickly approaching so many of us are thinking of what to crochet to make this year stand out. A few years ago I designed a tree skirt pattern and now it is my favorite thing to put out at Christmas. It sets the mood before the gifts are piled under the tree and is there with happy memories once they are all opened.

A handmade Tree Skirt is something that I know will be handed down in my family and will bring back so many memories. I know this, because I still love seeing the one I grew up with under my parents tree when I visit each year. I know when my kids grow up and leave my home (sniff, sniff, it will be here before I’m ready), I will make one for them their first year in their own home… because I am keeping mine-LOL!

Christmas Tree Skirt

Christmas Tree Skirt Styles

Tree skirts can be all different designs, shapes and colors. But, they all set the mood for your holiday decor. I rounded up some of my favorite designs, even my daughter helped me pick these out.

Some tree skirts remind me of older generations, some remind me of my own style and some reminds me of what young generations would adore. But, they all bring a smile to my face and a sense of jolly kindred spirits in whoever is lucky enough to receive one of these as a gift this year.

I hope you love them as much as I do and consider making one as a gift to give to someone you love or even to yourself. So, sit down and grab your favorite hook and decide which design will be your heart and soul in your next make.

Making a Tree Skirt is one of those handmade items that will be handed down through generations. Find the one that you love, there are so many different styles and looks you are sure to find one that is perfect for you home.

Free Thanksgiving Table Setting Crochet Patterns

Fall is here, temperatures are dropping and we are seeing pumpkin spice everywhere. That means that the holidays are fast approaching. One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving and the Thanksgiving Table. I love having a day that you really focus on all that we are thankful for with our family and friends.

This year we are especially grateful for all that we have. It’s been a bit of a rough year for everyone and we all need to make this Thanksgiving a little extra special. Sit down and bring a touch of handmade into your Thanksgiving Feast.

Thanksgiving Table Setting Crochet Patterns

Thanksgiving Table Setting

Thanksgiving is focused around the meal, the turkey, gravy, potatoes, dressing, sweet potatoes, cranberries, homemade rolls and of course pumpkin pie. We all have our favorites and they bring back so many memories. This year as you plan your menu, take some time to plan the decor as well.

I have collected some of my favorite free crochet patterns that I think would make a classy Thanksgiving table setting this year. No cheesy turkeys and pumpkins (although I do think they are fun to include). Find the right placemats, coaster, flatware holder, centerpiece and/or table runner to make your table feel a little extra special this year.

So, sit down and grab your favorite hook and decide which design will fit your style the most! Enjoy.

C2C Crochet Graphs – FREE Pattern Round Up

Today’s pattern round up is a follow up to last weeks Practice your C2C Crochet Skills round up. Last week I posted a round up of patterns that allowed you to practice your skills without worrying about color changes. But, today, you get to step up the challenge and begin working on graph with fun color changes-yippee!

As a reminder these round up are in response to a C2C lesson we had in my facebook group. Below is the explanation in my last blog post:

This year, I have been focusing on learning new crochet skills. Even as a designer, who has over 30 years of crochet experience, I have so many things to learn. This past month, I had a guest speaker come and talk to my facebook group (SP3 Crochet & Conversations) about Corner to Corner crochet, also know as C2C.

Malena from, Straight Hooked, taught the course and went over everything from reading graphs, how to build the crochet blocks, how the stitches increase/decrease, color changes and any other info we wanted to know. She did an amazing job and there is a replay available if your interested in watching, click HERE.

C2C crochet laptop cover

As part of the lesson, Straight Hooked, designed a FREE laptop cover pattern for everyone. It was a fun project for us to practice our skills on. Here is my practice swatch, I still need to make the back and seam them together. Find your copy of the laptop cover pattern for FREE by clicking HERE.

Start Practicing Your Color Changes in a C2C Graph Pattern

Changing colors in a Corner to Corner pattern add a slightly new challenge after you master the stitch. However, this is what makes the technique so much fun. I have gathered some of the cutest C2C projects that use color changes but won’t be overwhelming to you.

Implementing your new C2C Skills

Learning a new skill can be really fun. I love to dive in and try new projects with the techniques I’ve learned. The most common C2C projects are with cute images crocheted from graphs. However, I wanted to focus on mastering the actual stitches first including increasing and decreasing.

I searched for some fun projects that will allow you to practice your skills without worrying about the color changes in the chart. Most of these are quick, will allow you to play with the technique and create something fun and useful. One of the projects is larger, but it will allow you to use up your scrap yarn (yippee)!

Corner 2 Corner Crochet

So many people love the cute graphs that you can crochet into designs, but the stitches are lovely on their own and you can create to traditional crochet patterns with them. If you are just learning the C2C method, these are great patterns to practice the technique.

I would love to see any what you end up crocheting to practice your corner to corner (C2C) skills. Join my facebook group (info is below) to share your creations and inspire others with your finished crochet pieces.

Mother’s Day Pretty in Pink Crochet Pattern Round Up

Mom’s are the best, they give so much of themselves for their children. They pray for, teach, guide, love and cherish their children all their lives. Growing up, I always felt blessed to have such an amazing mom and today, being a mom to 3 children, I strive to be like my Mom. Here is my Mom on Mother’s Day, I believe in 1984 (I am the one of the right).

Mother's Day 1984

Mother’s day is wonderful day where we get to tell our Moms, or the Mother figures in our lives, how much we appreciate them and all they do for us.

Celebrations of mothers and motherhood can be traced back to the ancient Greeks and Romans, who held festivals in honor of the mother goddesses Rhea and Cybele, but the clearest modern precedent for Mother’s Day is the early Christian festival known as “Mothering Sunday.”

History.com

Traditionally, we present our Mother’s with gifts. As young children we always made something handmade. Whether it was a hand painted card, a paper plate crown with glitter or a bright and awkward big beaded necklace that they had to wear and show off (oh, the memories).

Mother's Day

Bring Back Handmade for Mother’s Day

This year, you can bring back the “handmade” part of the Mother’s Day gift. Let us all shower our Mother’s with one of these beautiful crochet patterns. Each one is unique, is a fairly quick project and can be customized to fit your Mother’s personality perfectly.

Cinco de Mayo Crochet Pattern Round Up

I love that we live in a country that celebrates different cultures. One of my favorite ways to do this is through the Cinco de Mayo Celebrations.

Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza.

Wikipedia

I love the traditional celebratory activities such as parades, food, music and dancing. We celebrate the holiday every year even though we have no links through our heritage. We have many friends that we can rely on for the true experience.

Cinco de Mayo Crochet Patterns you are going to LOVE

Let’s bring our beloved craft of crochet to the festivities through this fun and colorful pattern round up.

Many of us are stuck and home and some of our yarn stashes are running a little low. But, most of the featured patterns (except the colorful blanket) uses minimal amounts of yarn and would be quick to work up. Therefore, there are no excuses, create some fun way to celebrate the Mexican Holiday.

Pin Cushions – Crochet Pattern Round Up

We are currently all living in a time in our lives of uncertainty. As our entire world is staying home to help fight the spread of the Corona Virus/COVID-19 all our lives have changed. Some are working from home, some are unable to work, some are able to help others while others are looking for ways to help.

As a crafter, it is in our nature to make things and gift them to other people. I know many of my followers are really into doing charity work (just follow my October Crochet Cancer Challenge to see). As we embark on this new time in our lives I was trying to find a way to help out or reach out to others while still practicing social distancing.

One Way Crocheters can Pay It Forward

I have seen many posts on the shortage of medical face masks. Many are asking sewers to help make masks to support the healthcare workers (and others that need these masks).

All over the country, homebound Americans are crafting thousands upon thousands of face masks to help shield doctors, nurses and many others from the coronavirus.

They are pulling together to meet an urgent need: Hospitals, overwhelmed by the fast spreading pandemic, are burning through their supplies of protective gear, in particular masks, at an alarming rate. Doctors and nurses are getting sick and dying.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/25/business/coronavirus-masks-sewers.html

Crocheting facemasks is POINTLESS and can actually be DANGEROUS because germs will go straight through the fibers. So, why am I even bringing this up to my fellow crocheters? Because, as crocheters, can pay it forward and thank those that are sewing to help others.

Crochet Pin Cushions are fun, quick and a cute Thank You

Pin Cushions Crochet Pattern Round Up

It is always a great surprise to receive something for the work you have done, now is the time for us to do just that. Our fellow crafters are sewing away to help others. So, let’s pull together and crochet Pin Cushions to give to those who are helping others!

I have browsed Etsy and found some of the cutest Pin Cushions for you all today. Let’s support these small businesses, during this crazy time in our world, and put our crochet talents to work thanking others and letting them know we admire their hard work!

Cutest Crochet Pin Cushions

I would love to see any pin cushions you have made to pay it forward. Please join my facebook group in the next paragraph to show me and to inspire others. Stay Healthy and Well.

St. Patrick’s Day Crochet Pattern Round

The feast of St. Patrick’s Day is nearly here and it is time to get your crochet on and whip up some lucky patterns for the occassion.

Every March 17, the United States becomes an emerald country for a day. Americans wear green clothes and quaff green beer. Green milkshakes, bagels and grits appear on menus. In a leprechaun-worthy shenanigan, Chicago even dyes its river green.

https://www.history.com/news/st-patricks-day-origins-america

However you plan to celebrate, I can guarantee that one or many of the below St. Patrick’s Day crochet pattern finds will warm up your home and get you ready for the big day.

St Patrick's Day Pattern Round Up

A few St. Patricks Day Facts According to History.com

  1. For several centuries, March 17 was a day of solemnity in Ireland with Catholics attending church in the morning and partaking of modest feasts in the afternoon.
  2. The party atmosphere (in America) only spread to Ireland after the arrival of television when the Irish could see all the fun being had across the ocean.
  3. For decades, Irish laws prohibited pubs from opening on holy days such as March 17. Until 1961, the only legal place to get a drink in the Irish capital on St. Patrick’s Day was the Royal Dublin Dog Show, which naturally attracted those with only a passing canine interest.
  4. The meal that became a St. Patrick’s Day staple across the country—corned beef and cabbage—was also an American innovation. While ham and cabbage was eaten in Ireland, corned beef proved a cheaper substitute for impoverished immigrants.
