Join the 2025 Crochet Cancer Challenge
Itโs that time of year againโOctober is just around the corner, and with it comes a powerful opportunity to make a difference through crochet. Iโm honored to invite you to join us for the 2025 Crochet Cancer Challenge. This event has become a meaningful tradition in our community, where crocheters around the world come together to support those affected by cancer, one hat at a time.
This year marks another incredible month of giving, creativity, and hope. Whether you’re returning from last year or this is your first time joining, I promise this challenge will touch your heart and inspire your hook.
What is the Crochet Cancer Challenge?
The Crochet Cancer Challenge is a month-long event held every October. Each weekday (Monday through Friday with bonus weekend patterns on Saturday), a different crochet designer releases a FREE hat pattern. In return, we ask that you pledge to crochet at least one hat from that pattern to donate to a cancer patient or cancer treatment center in your area.

Itโs a simple way to show love and support to someone in the fight of their lifeโand your handmade gift could be the comfort they need.
How Does It Work?
Hereโs how you can join in:
- Visit the Challenge blog post daily. A new pattern will be posted Monday through Friday (plus bonus weekend patterns on Saturday) throughout October.
- Download the free hat pattern. Each designer will offer their pattern for free for a minimum of 24 hours using code “CANCERCHALLENGE2025“.
- Make a pledge. By downloading the pattern, you’re pledging to make at least one hat from that design and donate it to someone battling cancer.
- Share your progress. Use the hashtag #CrochetCancerChallenge on social media so we can see your beautiful work and encourage others to join.
The challenge begins on October 1, 2025, and runs through the entire month.

Why Hats?
Hair loss is a common side effect of cancer treatments. A handmade hat not only offers warmth and comfort but also reminds the recipient that someone is thinking of them. Each stitch is a symbol of hope, courage, and love.
The Impact
Last year, hundreds of crocheters pledged thousands of hats across the world. This year, we hope to make an even greater impactโand we can do it with your help!
If youโve participated before, you know how powerful this challenge can be. If youโre new, welcomeโweโre so glad youโre here.

Want to Be Reminded?
Donโt want to miss a single pattern? Sign up for the daily email reminders so each dayโs featured hat arrives in your inbox.
You can also bookmark this post and check back daily throughout October to see each new design and get the download info.
Spread the Word
Help us make the biggest impact yet by sharing this event with your crochet groups, friends, and on social media. The more people who join, the more hats we can createโand the more lives we can touch.
When the Crochet Cancer Challenge begins, check back to this blog post (or check your email) daily for the new crochet hat pattern. Scroll down to the pattern and click the link to go to their blog post, then be sure to look for the download button below:

Oct 10: Bucket of Strength Hat
I am thankful to have participated in this event each year since it started. Over the years I have been honored to have met many outstanding people, including survivors, their family members, and those who make and donate things to help those effected by cancer. This year my “beanie” is a different style, one full of strength. Almost every year I have chosen to honor those with lung cancer.
A few years ago my mother in law was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I often tell her she should be the poster child for the effect a positive outlook can have on one’s life. Through the diagnosis, aggressive rounds of chemo, hair-loss, and many side effects, she has never stopped living her life to the fullest. I know she has to have felt a range of emotions and she has been sick, but she has ALWAYS been 100% there for everyone around her. I chose a colorful, purple-ish yarn instead of white (the color of the lung cancer ribbon) to celebrate the many colorful moments she brings to her grandkids, kids, and everyone who knows her. May this hat bring strength, comfort, and a feeling of power to all who wear it.

Oct 31 – Last Day of the Crochet Cancer Challenge
I hope you have been enjoying the month-long challenge to crochet chemo caps for those in need. This is a highlight for me to host every year, and I enjoy it tenfold because of all of you. This year, there was an unexpected occurrence that made our last days’ contribution unavailable. I didn’t want to leave you all in the dark, so I had to put my thinking cap on, and I think I have come up with something fun!
For the last day of the challenge, I am offering all of my prior hat designs in exchange for your pledge. That’s right, any of my past hat designs that were featured are available through Sunday, November 2, 2025. Same Code as the rest of the challenge, BUT there is one part that is kind of a pain in the keester. To allow you to use the same coupon code, you will need to add each pattern individually and check out with the code each time. Please confirm that your total amount has zeroed out prior to finishing check out. Sorry, I tried to figure out a better way.
To find the 12 featured hats today, I added them to the top of the list due to many comments asking for that change. So scroll up until you find the highlighted section (just like this one) and find the links above.
