There’s something magical about mountain sunsets—the way the sky transforms and glows as the sun dips behind rugged peaks. If you’re a crochet enthusiast looking to capture this serene beauty in your home decor, a Mountain Sunset Crochet Pillow Cover is the perfect project for you. This stunning piece will not only add a pop of color to your living space but also bring a touch of nature’s tranquility indoors.

Mountain Sunset pillow cover

I tend to design a lot of mountain themed patterns, which is why I feature a silhouette of mountain peaks with the simplicity of the sun setting, or the moon rising, you get to pick. But, instead of leaving the back of the pillow plain I wanted to give some character. I designed simple striping with a touch of a checkerboard – this look goes with most home decor. Plus, you can rotate the pillow for a completely different look letting the striping run horizontal or vertical.

Have You Worked Color Changes In Crochet?

If you’ve been following me, you know my love of the knotted half double crochet. This stitch is what has allowed me to create some of the most beautiful designs using color changes. It creates gorgeous color transitions, clean lines and angles among a full-bodied stitch.

The knotted half double crochet is a unique stitch that is new to many crocheters. I started designing with it in 2020 when I designed my Music to the Souls Blankets, I now have over 30 patterns using it including the Inspiring Nature Blankets I designed in 2022. Links to these blanket designs can be found at the end of this post. The Mountain Sunset Pillow Cover is an ideal accessory to make with any of these designs.

Color Changes Course

If you are new to crocheting color changes it can be intimidating. Starting a large project can be extra intimidating because you want it to start and end with consistent quality of tension/gauge and stitches. It was important to me to make everyone feel confident when making one of my designs using the knotted half double crochet and working my graph patterns, so I created a full course that walks you through all the nitty gritty you may want to know.

All my designs using this technique have full instructions in the pattern itself, but if you want to practice or need a little more guidance, please be sure to check out my Changing Colors Course.
