Forest Friends Crochet Pattern Set

Forest Friends Set

So excited to release the entire Forest Friends Set! This adorable set includes the blanket, pillow and wall hanging. Each piece features the darling forest animal faces that are resting peacefully, emphasizing on the main detail in the upper face of the animals especially the eyes and ears while the lower outline fades into the stitches of the blanket.

Customize the blanket with all of the same animals or pick one and do them all the same. The pattern includes the instructions for the following animals: Fox (or change to grey colors for a Wolf), Owl, Skunk, Raccoon and Deer.

Forest Friends Animal Faces

Forest Friends Blanket

The Forest Friends blanket is larger than a traditional baby blanket. This will allow for the baby to grow into it and use the blanket into childhood or even when they are older, or even better, it can be a nice size for me (mom) to wrap up in. The completed size of the blanket is roughly 38” wide X 54” long. Grab your copy of only the Forest Friends Blanket on Ravelry: HERE or Etsy: HERE.

Forest Friends Blanket

Forest Friends Pillow

The Pillow is a very cute, fun and quick project that you can add to any home decor. It makes a cute accent piece for nurseries, children’s bedroom, classrooms, reading nooks or even cabins. The pillow fits a traditional accent pillow size of 14X14 inches square. You can grab the pattern for just the pillow on Ravelry: HERE or on Etsy: HERE.

Forest Friends Pillow

Forest Friends Wall Hanging

The Wall Hanging is whimsical project that accents the pillow and blanket perfectly. The wall hanging can be made off a wooden rod/dowel, a decorative hanger or find a cute branch out in nature for a earthy look. The finished size of the Forest Friends Wall Hanging is about 14-15” wide by 18” long counting the fringe but not the top hanger string. Grab the Forest Friends Wall Hanging pattern on Ravelry: HERE or on Etsy: HERE.

Forest Friends Wall Hanging

Add Appliques to Customize

All the coordinating pieces include instructions for some fun appliques including a small flower, larger flower, a leaf and a fun pine tree. The appliques are customizable-therefore, you can use as many, or as few as you envision on your final project.

The entire set is available, at a discounted price on Ravelry: HERE or on Etsy: HERE

You will love making the entire Forest Friends Set. The main stitch in the pattern creates a thin fabric creating a light-weight blanket. And an even bigger bonus is that it works up pretty quick. Beer Thirty Mitten Cozy Video Tutorial

One of my more popular patterns, especially this time of year, is the Beer Thirty Mitten Cozy. This is a fun gift to give to the tailgater, BBQers, Soccer Moms , or anyone who enjoys a cold beer or hot coffee during those chilly hours.

The pattern includes instructions for the cozy mitten as well as a traditional mitten. You basically get 2 patterns in one. The pattern includes multiple sizes for adults including: Small / Medium / Large / XLarge.

Beer Thirty crochet pattern  beer thirty mitten cozy

I recently updated the Beer Thirty Mitten Cozy Pattern to my new easier to read format. But, the biggest change is that I added a video tutorial. When making the cozy mitten you have to make a few folds to help construct the cozy. These can be a little tricky to explain in words, so showing you is a better option. I hope you find the update and new tutorial helpful.

Sleep Tight Pocket Pillow – Crochet Pattern

Earlier this week, I released a fun Pocket Pillow Pattern that is so much fun! It is a fun way to gift books. Or a useful way to hold/store items you use daily while lounging on the couch (newspaper, remotes, books, iPad). Well, as soon as I designed a couple, I knew I had to include the same idea to the Popular Sleep Tight Teddy Bear Set.

Pocket Pillow Pattern – Texture, Texture, Texture

The Pocket Pillow pattern is so much fun! It puts a spin on an ordinary household item and changes it into a fun way to decorate your home. Or, add something in the pockets and it is a fun and unique way to give someone a gift.

Pocket Pillows

Pocket Pillows? what are they?

A Pocket Pillow is just what the title says. It is an everyday pillow that features a pocket one one side. The pockets are a great way to store items you like to keep close by on the couch or bed, such as your remote control, a book or iPad or so much more.

The design of the pockets is pretty basic so I had to make it exciting so I designed 3 different options that feature 3 very different textures. Each textures is lovely and has a different style but they all look amazing. You get to decide as you make your pillow custom to your liking, which one do you love the most?

The pillow covers are beautiful all by themselves. But, if you know me and my designs, I always add another fun twist!

Pick a Pocket

Pillows are always fun to change up the look of a room. Textures and colors speak volume in design so crochet is always a great option.

But, let’s make our pillows even more useful? How? Add a pocket on the front to store those essentials that always get lost in the cushions.

It’s now time to pick another fun, unique and eye catching texture in the 3 different stitch options of the pillow pockets.

Pocket Pillows

Video Tutorials

The pattern includes written instructions, photo tutorials and Video tutorials on YouTube for some of the stitches. I am a visual learner and know how helpful they can be. I hope you enjoy learning some new techniques.

Gifts for Any Occasion

The Pocket Pillows can also be used as a fun and unique way to give a gift. Add a book to a pillow and give to a teacher, a graduate, a bookworm. The possibilities are endless and honestly will work for anyone.

Braided Sc

They can also make great gifts to those who like to travel, just add your brochures, maps and travel guides. The pocket pillows will also dub as a touch of home in the RV or backseat of your car!

V Puff Stitch

The Pocket Pillows work great to hold other items too. My daughter uses hers to hold her kindle, she also likes to keep a notepad and pen with it so she can take notes. I love that the pocket pillows can appeal to ALL ages!

Dream Catcher Delight – Free Crochet Pattern

My daughter has always had a difficult time getting to sleep at night. We have tried many different routines but when the lights go out, she thinks she will have a bad dream. I was so excited when she came home from school one day and told me one of her friends got a dream catcher and she was sure this would fix her bedtime worries.

*unknown source

This sparked an idea and I knew I had to make one for her the next day. This was such a fun and easy project that literally took an afternoon. I am excited to share this tutorial with all of you today.

Sweet Potato 3

Dream Catchers Delight Tutorial

For this pattern I used some beautiful cotton yarn by Paint Box, but any scrap yarn will do. Here is a list of materials needed:

Worsted Weight Scrap Yarn (sample was made from Paintbox Cotton):

Colors used in sample: Lipstick Pink (45 yards), Blush Pink (45 yards), Seafoam Blue (8 yards), Dolphin Blue (12 yards), Dusty Rose (8 yards)

Crochet Hook G (4.5 mm)

Embroider Hoop 6” or 15cm

Scissors & Yarn Needle

Dream Catcher Delight Materials

Gauge: gauge checks will be given throughout the pattern.

Begin with color 1 (center of dream catcher)

Ch 4, join in 1st ch to form a loop

R1: Ch 1, 8sc in loop, join in fist sc

R2: Ch 2, in same st as join work dc4tog, ch 4, [in next st dc5tog, ch 4], repeat [] to end, fasten off and weave in ends (8 puffs made)

Gauge check: measures 2” across center

Sweet Potato 3

Using color 2, join in any chain loop of R2

R3: Ch 1, 7sc in each ch loop around, join in 1st sc

Sweet Potato 3

R4: Slst in next 3 sts (you should be in the 4th sc of the 7sc in the loop), ch 12, slst in same st as last slst, [slst in next 7 sts, ch 12, slst in same st as last slst], repeat [] around, slst in next 3 sts (you should be at the beginning slst), fasten off and weave in ends (8 ch spaces made)

Gauge check; measures 3” across not including the chain loops

Sweet Potato 3

Using color 2 (same as last section), join in any chain loop from R4

R5: Ch 1, 10sc in chain loop, ch 2, [10sc in next ch loop, ch 2], repeat [] around, join in top of 1st sc

Gauge check: measures 5” across

Sweet Potato 3

R6: Slst in next 3 sts, [ch 2, skip next 2 sts, slst in next st, ch 6, skip next 8 sts, slst in next st], repeat [] around, join in slst before first ch 2 sp, fasten off and weave in ends

Gauge check: measures just under 6” across (this must be just under 6”, if it is more than 6” then your hoop will be too small, the crochet piece needs to stretch slightly to look nice)

Sweet Potato 3

Using color 1

Join into any ch 2 sp but also join around embroidery hoop, in the next round you will be crocheting around the embroidery hoop and in the ch sps from R6

R7: [4sc in ch 2 sp, 12sc in ch 6 sp], repeat [] around,

Note: this row is a bit awkward to crochet, I found it easiest to hold the hoop perpendicular to my body and kind of crochet sideways, but however you can do it, will work.

Sweet Potato 3

Almost Done!

Optional: if you feel like the edge (top of sc around hoop) are not clean and even this row will help,  turn work and slst in top of each sc from R7, fasten off and weave in ends

Sweet Potato 3

Add the Fringe

Cut 10 strands of yarn in 5 different colors. Each strand was approximately 28” long.

Sweet Potato 3

Fold each strand in half and join at the fold, attach around the yarn wraps around the hoop.

Sweet Potato 3

Once all fringe has been attached, comb straight and trim to a “v”.

Sweet Potato 3

Make 2 Flowers

For the first flower I used Blue yarn and followed this beautiful pattern called the May Rose, link HERE. Take note that this pattern is in UK terms so remember the stitches in US terms are different, the difference is referenced in the pattern.

For the second flower I used pink yarn and followed the same May Rose pattern but only began with a beginning chain of 20. I then worked 3 large petals, 3 medium petals and 3 small petals.

Dream Catcher Delight Tutorial

Make 3 Leaves

Ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch from hk. Sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, 4 dc in next ch, rotate and work along bottom of foundation ch, 4dc in first ch (same ch as last dc made in), dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, sc in next ch, sl st in next, fasten off.

Sweet Potato 3

Make Swirled Tassel

Ch 40, sc in 5th ch from hook (the skipped ch 4 will create a loop, this loop  will be where you attach the tassel later in the pattern), 2sc in each ch to end, fasten off.

To add tassel at end cut 16 pieces of yarn about 10” long, pull yarn pieces through chain 4 loop at end of tassel and fold in half

Using a contrasting color of yarn, wrap around tassel just below fold. I wrapped around about 4 times and securely tie tight, trim ends of tassel even.

Optional: add a charm and/or beads to tassel

Dream Catcher Tutorial

Assembly

Attach blue flower on left side of dream catcher, where the fringe begins.

Sew pink flower just below blue flower.

Sew one leaf to the right of the pink flower, follow the same angle as the hoop,

Sew another leaf about ¾” above the blue flower also following the same angle as the hoop.

Sew last leaf under the petals of the blue flower. Angle it straight up covering the base of the last leaf sewn on.

Attach tassel to the dreamcatcher on about 1” from the fringe edge on the right side.

Tip: If the fringe on the dream catcher is not straight it may help to steam it while it is hanging.

18″ Doll PJ Set – Crochet Pattern Release

Something new is ready from Sweet Potato 3!!! My daughter received a beloved “American Girl” doll (ugh umm… Our Generation… wink) for Christmas. Of course the first thing she noticed what that her new doll, Ginger, didn’t have any PJ’s! Having some time on my hands I went on a hunt for a new pattern but couldn’t find one that had her special requests:

Stripes, Footed, Button Front PJ’s with Matching Hat

Yep, she was that specific. So, I went to work and soon realized how many different options you could create with just the one pattern.

PJ Set

The red and grey set was my first attempt and she LOVED it!!! But, with my baseball boys in the house I realized how fun it would be to make some purple baseball style pj’s (but this time I didn’t make them with feet so of course I had to add the slippers). Then one of my testers combined them with stripes and baseball style, I simply love it!

The pj’s simple slip on from the feet up and button in front. The slippers work up very quick and could even be used as shoes to go with all of the dolls outfits. And don’t forget the stocking hat to make this slumber party set complete.

Girls Handbag Pattern – Bow, Fox, Owl and Kitten

I am so excited to have the Girls Handbag ready for all of you! This fun pattern is ready just in time for the Holidays. Who are the little girls on your list? I have a few that I know would love one of these.

Sweet Potato 3

This is an all in one pattern. The body of the handbag, for each design, is constructed the same. Detailed information is included to guide you through making the right changes depending on your final outcome. The main changes are in the closing flap and final details such as eyes, nose and ears.

My favorite part of this pattern is the handbag handle/strap. I researched until I combined 3 different tutorials to create a non-stretching crochet strap. I love it and know you will to. The pattern includes a detailed photo tutorial on how to make it perfect in any length.

A perfect showing of vintage spring fever is this adorable crochet umbrella canopy. I can just picture all those little girls in their Easter dresses and lacy umbrellas posing for those perfect pictures.

Now you can create this same look by making the crochet umbrella canopy and attaching it to a child size umbrella.

 pattern-008-umbrella1 pattern-009-umbrella2

About the Umbrella Canopy Pattern

umbrellafinal-1

The pattern has full written instructions for the canopy, (sorry, no chart is provided in the pattern). The canopy of made using a super fine yarn instead of thread so it will work up quicker than thread but will still resemble a vintage doily.

Once the canopy is crocheted you will need to attach it to an umbrella frame. I had planned on upcycling an old umbrella that had a tear in it, however, when I opened it up there was a broken arm. I went out and purchased a children’s umbrella and it did the trick.

The pattern includes a full step-by-step photo tutorial for preparing your umbrella frame and how to assemble the canopy to the frame. Instructions are written (no chart) and the canopy is made using a super fine yarn instead of heavy thread.

Note of Umbrella: find a child size umbrella measuring 16” from top of canopy to end tips, umbrella must have 8 points.

Reversible Puffy Vest – Crochet Pattern

  • Post author:
  • Reading time:2 mins read
My family is obsessed with any kind of puffy coats, vests, jackets. Because, if they make it, we probably have it. As a crochet pattern designer, I had to sit down and cochet one when our friends had a little guy on the way. Not only did I design a puffy vest, I designed a reversible puffy vest!

puffy vest crochet pattern

About the Reversible Puffy Vest Pattern

Before I sat down to design a vest, I searched high and low for a pattern with no luck. Therefore, I believe, this is the first puffy vest pattern designed and it is fun to make. One key element I love about it is that there is very limited amounts of sewing pieces together. I did my best to “stitch” the pieces together as you cochet the vest.

The pattern includes sizes for younger children

0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-12 months and 12-24 months

And check out how cute it is in pink!!! A huge thank you goes out to Trish, owner of Crochet Kind of Day, for testing this pattern and sharing her darling version of the Vest.

It is all in the details of the Shotgun Shell Pillow

The crochet pattern is made using a bulky yarn so it works up quick. But take a close look at the stitches used and what they really look like. The pillow includes the details of the primer and brass on one end, and the crimping closure on the other end.
I love seeing how changes stitches and simple techniques such as stitch placement can really make a pattern pop with detail.

Serenity Yoga / Beach Tote Crochet Pattern

  • Post author:
  • Reading time:4 mins read
A friendly crochet design competition can be so fun and challenging all at the same time. I recently was a participant in one and designed the Serenity Yoga / Beach Tote. Keep reading so see how this design came to be.

As a competitor, I received a theme, a stitch and was given 4 weeks to be ready to release! The pattern had to be designed, written, tested and photographed with deadlines along the way.

The Theme: Serenity

I was so excited to hear about the theme. When I think of, Serenity, I think of being at peace, in nature and feeling relaxed. To me, there is no better place than to be in the Mountains. The above photo was a photo we took on a recent hike I went on with my family in the Payette National Forest in Central Idaho.

The Stitch: Serenity

A few days later the stitch was released. I was surprised to hear that it was called, SERENITY, as well. The Serenity stitch is basically a picot, cluster, picot repeat. We were shown this as a sample.

Now, I was ready for the design frenzy that was going on through my head. I had about 4 or 5 designs and really struggled on settling on one. However, in the end, my thoughts about serenity was always,
Quiet, Meditative, Nature,

The Design: Serenity Yoga / Beach Tote

I had so much fun designing this tote. It is something different than my typical design style. I really tried to push my level of creativity and loved seeing the bottom of the bag change with each row. I used Premier Yarns Cotton and loved working with this yarn. It will wear nicely and wash up great!

I made the bottom of the tote fun and colorful, as the bottom turns the corner it is solid for a more stable base to the tote and allows the yoga mat to easily sit at the bottom. About 4″ from the base you get to see the beauty of the serenity stitch begin and show off the delicateness of the stitch repeats.

After adding a shoulder strap and a drawstring closure the tote is done!

But, not everyone is into yoga. I want everyone to be able to make this toe because it is so much fun! So, I included instructions to make the tote smaller and it will work perfect for a day at the beach. The photo’s below are courtesy of Nondas from Yarn Medleys from the Heart.

Kendal, from Kendal’s Kreations, also made a beautiful full sized Yoga Tote.

And one more fabulous sample is by Gillian from Enfy’s Creations.
