Cozy Shawls & Scarves – Crochet Patterns

Are you going to keep warm on these cooler days of fall? They will be here before we know it and wearing a shawl or scarf is a fun way to add some fun pieces to your wardrobe. One of the more popular, fun and versatile pieces to add is shawls and scarves.

I am beyond excited to share my latest project, with Leisure Arts, and show you the Cozy Shawls and Scarves book that includes 7 different patterns.

Sweet Potato 3

I strived to give you 7 different designs that are all different in style, look, texture and design. By using a variety of yarn brands, weights of yarn, and combining colors that compliment each design, I hope you love each one as much as I do.

The colors I decided on in the Cozy Shawls & Scarves book where inspired by nature. I feel closest to the beauty of the great outdoors in the Sawtooth Mountains that I visit multiple times every year with family and friends. Therefore, each design included in the book, is named after one of the mountain lakes in the Sawtooth Mountains.

I hope you enjoy seeing the details of each design included in the Cozy Shawls & Scarves book.

Corner Cable Drape Cowl Crochet Pattern

Introducing a beautiful, lightweight cowl that is perfect for the changing weather, the Corner Cable Drape Cowl.

Not only is this a classic looking piece to add to your wardrobe, your eyes will be drawn to the details in the cables. The beautiful color changes of Lion Brand Mandala yarn perfectly accentuates the cowls design.
Corner Cable Drape CowlThe cowl is made as one flat piece that creates a simple cable design that aligns the top and bottom edge of the cowl. However, If crocheting cables intimidate you, this is a good beginner project so give it a try. After your main cowl is made you will sew the edges partially together to create the “drape” in the cowl.

I loved crocheting the cowl in a light weight (#3) yarn. By using the finer yarn you create a nice, light fabric that keeps the chill off but doesn’t keep you too warm on spring days. Due to the colors naturally changing in the Mandala yarn it results in you getting two completely different colorful looks to your cowl. Just turn and rotate the front and back of the cowl which leaves you with two different colorways.

Corner Cable Drape Cowl

Pattern Details:

The Corner Cable Drape Cowl is made as One Size Fits Most and is a loose fitting garment that really does fit most. I recommend using Lion Brand Mandala yarn, it only takes 1 ball; however, the cowl can be made in any light weight (#3) yarn. Use a crochet H (5 mm) hook, or whatever size meets gauge, this will ensure a proper final size. Some other helpful notions are (1) yarn needle, (2) scissors and (3) a measuring tape.

Boulder Creek Scarf

The Versatility of the Boulder Creek Scarf

The Boulder Creek Scarf can be worn many different ways giving you many different looks. Use one button on the side for a corner drape scarf, this is a dressier or more formal way to wear the scarf. Button the entire edge of the scarf for a cowl style that can be worn casually. Or for a more modern style, fold the scarf in half and wrap it around your neck and secure it in place with a center button.

Made of an Aran weight yarn (or light bulky or heavy worsted), you create a neck wrap that will keep you warm in any setting.

See the Texture

If you are familiar with the patterns from my shop, Sweet Potato 3, you know I love texture. This design is a perfect example. I love to create different textures by using combinations of different stitches and sometimes I even throw in something totally different to get that strikingly different look.

Boulder Creek Scarf Texture

Another Look in Another Yarn

I just completed making the Boulder Creek Scarf in a lovely yarn that I received as a gift. It is called Nob Hill Impact yarn. It is very similar to a Merino wool, very lush and soft and the fiber has a bit of a rise and fall to it as you crochet. It really is lovely yarn.

Knob Hill yarn

The scarf turned out stunning, soft and feels amazing to wear. Due to the light color changes and rise and fall in the fiber loft a lot of the texture of the scarf was lost. Less texture but will still be a staple in my closet!

Interlace Scarf & Wrap  Interlace Scarf & Wrap

The pattern includes two sizes: small/medium and large/Xlarge. The lightness of this scarf is amazing and allows for a nice drape to it. The lace yarn is warm but not heavy so is comfortable to wear as an accessory all day long.

The Interlace Scarf & Wrap is available in all my shops: Ravelry / Etsy / Craftsy

I hope you find this unique design as appealing and fun as I do. Crocheting with lace yarn you can quickly see how delicate the stitches look, but they are worked with ease. The simple stitches create a beautiful texture. I just love this pattern so much, it is so fun and exciting to crochet.

The Vanessa’s Vintage Scarf has a fun and unique feature. Simply wrap the scarf around your neck and lace the end through the built in keyhole. This holds the scarf in place and adds a touch of charm to the design. The scarf comes in 3 sizes: child, adult, adult Xlarge

You can order just the scarf here: Ravelry

Beautiful in all colors

I love the richness of the Vanessa’s set in the olive color shown above. I think this color resonates with me because my Great Grandmother wore olive all the time. Therefore, it brings back some very fond memories of her. But, I wanted to see it in a beautiful pastel color and choose this muted blue. Which one do you like better? I am pretty torn.

The popular cowl/hat combo is the perfect accessory for this year! Made in a beautiful textured stitch that creates a soft drape to the hat and cowl. Simply tie the pom drawstrings together to make it a slouchy hat. Un-tie them and pull it over your head for a fun cowl.

Free Mustache Cowl Crochet Pattern

A Cute, Fun, Unique, Sure to Make You SMILE Cowl!
The mustache cowl is all those wonderful things and is a free pattern to you from

free mustache cowl pattern

This fun cowl is quick to make and would be fun in any colors. I personally like the vibrant and bright colors for the dreary days of winter. Seriously, we haven’t seen sunshine for almost 3 weeks. I needed something bright and colorful to work on!

Save this pattern in your Ravelry Account for easy access.

For the cowl, it is a very basic crochet pattern and can easily be adjusted for any size. I made the child size but alternative stitch counts in parenthesis would be for an adult size.

free cowl pattern

The Cowl Pattern:

For your gauge check use Hook K = 9 rows and 12 hdc = 4 inches square

Using Worsted Weight Yarn and Crochet Hook K (6.5 mm)

Work 65 (80) foundationless hdc, join in first hdc making sure not to twist, this will form a ring (tutorial here-also know as a foundation hdc- I know that doesn’t make much sense)
Row 2-18 (24): Ch 2, hdc in each st around, join, after last row is completed,
Fasten off and bury all ends, You will need to also sew/join the bottom of the first and last hdc from the foundation row.

Laying flat the completed measurements for the cowl are:
Child Size = 11 inches wide X 8 inches high
Adult Size = 15 inches wide X 10 1/2 inches high

Mustache Cowl Pattern

For the Mustache I used the pattern by Jessica Chong on Ravelry. Again I used worsted weight yarn but used a crochet hook K (6.5 mm) instead of what was recommended. The pattern is very easy to follow and works up quick.

I sewed on the mustache to the cowl so that the top of the mustache was just below the 3rd row from the top (the mustache curl tips was about 1 1/2 rows from the top).

Look how cute and easy they turned out. This pattern is sure to be a hit for whoever receives the finished cowl and will turn heads and make all who see it smile!

I hope you enjoyed the pattern and decide to follow Sweet Potato 3 Patterns on facebook for patterns, tutorials and lots of crochet fun!

It’s getting cold outside, I think I need a hood and maybe a scarf. Well, why not combine them into one piece. Introducing the Wrap Me Tender Hooded Scarf crochet pattern.
The Hooded Scarf pattern is crocheted to be a convertible accessory. When it is chilly, wrap it around your neck to keep you nice and warm. As the sun comes out and warms you up, simply unwrap the scarf and let it hang to the side to keep you comfortable.
Hooded Scarf Wrap Me Tender

About the Wrap Me Tender Hooded Scarf Pattern

The hooded scarf is made with a combination of double crochets. Since the double crochet is one of the taller stitches, the fabric works up quick and before you know it, your project will be complete. Made in a worsted weight yarn creates an ideal warmth in the stitchwork.
Wrap Me Tender Hooded Scarf
I love the pattern made up in the plum color. But, I can totally picture this in a bright red for the holidays (or for Halloween-Little Red Riding Hood). A lovely self striping yarn would also create a lovely look to the scarf.
The pattern comes in 3 sizes. One for toddlers, one for children an one for adults.

3-in-1 Summer Wrap Crochet Pattern

  • Post author:
  • Reading time:3 mins read

Spring has sprung and it won’t be long until summer is in full swing! I love this time of year and the newness of crochet projects. Our mind shifts from warm cowl, scarves, hats and blankets to fun wraps for around the pool, home accessories and small projects. So, this is the perfect time to share my latest 3 in 1 Summer Wrap crochet pattern.

The 3 in 1 wrap is ideal to toss into your bag for everyday use. If a slight chill comes into the air you can easily grab this wrap and drape it across your shoulders for just enough of a layer to warm you a bit. The open stitches allow for a breeze to get through – and also make the wrap a quick project which we all kind of like.

Are you headed to the store in your leggings and just need a little cover up? Once again, this is the wrap for you! A quick knot around your hips and it provides a little coverage and a very sporty look. You’ll feel more confident as you run in and out of shops.

Class up an old skirt to give your outfit a little boost. This was my daughters favorite way to wear the wrap. It provided the fun colors that she loves to wear and the softness was just an added bonus. Or better yet, wear it tied around your waist as you sport your new summer swimwear at the pool or beach.

About the 3 in 1 Wrap

The wrap is made with Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable yarn which creates these fantastic summer colorways. The yarn naturally changes from one color to the next so no need to be changing yarn colors. The yarn has a very soft feel to it, so having it next to your skin is no problem at all.

About the pattern

The pattern comes in a child/youth size and an adult size. Materials Needed to completed the pattern are as follows:

  • Hook size J (6mm)
  • Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable (Worsted Weight Yarn)
  •             Sample is made in color “Candied”
  •             Child Sizes – used about 280 yards (full skein)
  •             Ladies Size – uses about 530 yards (almost 2 full skeins)
  • Scissors
  • Yarn Needle
