If you love crochet projects with a little personality and you have a soft spot for music, the newest addition to my Music to My Soul Blanket Collection is sure to strike the right note!

The Clarinet Crochet Blanket combines the graceful shape of the clarinet with artistic stripes that flow alongside the instrument, creating a modern and eye-catching crochet design.

Unlike some of the other blankets in the Music to My Soul collection, this design doesn’t use the split-silhouette style. Instead, I wanted the clarinet to stand on its own while using surrounding stripes to add visual interest to the blanket.

A Modern Clarinet Crochet Blanket

The clarinet has such a distinctive shape. Its long, elegant body and recognizable bell make it an especially fun instrument to translate into a crochet blanket.

For this design, I wanted the clarinet to remain the star of the blanket without making the image feel too literal or traditional.

The solution was to pair the clarinet with artistic stripes that move around the instrument. These stripes add a contemporary element to the design while helping draw your eye toward the clarinet in the center.

The result is a blanket that feels more like modern crochet artwork than a traditional instrument illustration.

Bringing the Design to Life

One of the most rewarding parts of designing a blanket is seeing the idea in my head eventually become an actual finished piece.

And for this particular design, I had the privilege of working with Kimberli Piper, who helped bring that vision to life.

After I designed the blanket, Kimberli offered to make the sample, and she generously allowed me to use her beautiful photographs of the finished blanket.

She did an amazing job bringing this design to life. Seeing her finished blanket and photographs allowed me to share the vision behind the pattern in a way that simply isn’t possible with a design on paper.

I am so grateful that Kimberli was willing to share both her time and her incredible crochet skills with all of us. Sample makers put so much care into creating these projects, and I truly appreciate the opportunity to showcase their work.

Thank you, Kimberli, for helping this clarinet blanket come to life! โค๏ธ

Be sure to take a close look at the photos throughout this post to see just how beautifully she brought the colors, stripes, and clarinet design together.

Artistic Stripes Add Movement

One of my favorite details of this clarinet blanket is the way the stripes interact with the instrument.

Rather than simply filling the background with one solid color, the stripes create movement across the blanket. They help frame the clarinet while adding layers of color and visual interest.

The combination of the curved clarinet shape and the flowing stripes gives the blanket an almost musical qualityโ€”as if the design itself is moving across the fabric.

And, of course, you can have fun choosing the colors for those stripes!

Choose Your Own Color Combination

Color can completely change the personality of this blanket.

The artistic stripes give you plenty of opportunities to create a color palette that is unique to you or the person you’re making the blanket for.

Consider using:

  • School colors for a band student
  • A clarinet player’s favorite colors
  • Classic black, white, and neutral shades
  • Bright, contrasting colors for a bold statement
  • Soft colors for a more subtle look
  • Colors that coordinate with a bedroom or music room

You could even use colors inspired by a school marching band or concert band uniform.

Whether you recreate the colors of the sample or choose something completely different, the finished blanket can be customized to suit any musician.

Part of the Music to My Soul Collection

The Clarinet Crochet Blanket is part of my Music to My Soul Collection, a series of crochet blanket patterns inspired by musical instruments.

Each design in the collection has its own artistic approach. Some feature bold split silhouettes, while others use different graphic elements to highlight the instrument.

For the clarinet, the flowing stripes were the perfect way to complement its long, graceful shape while giving the blanket its own distinctive style.

I love that the collection isn’t limited to one particular design technique. Each instrument gets to have its own personality!

A Handmade Gift for Clarinet Players

If you have a clarinet player in your life, this blanket makes a wonderfully personal handmade gift.

The Clarinet Crochet Blanket would be especially fun for:

  • Clarinet players
  • Band students
  • Marching band members
  • Concert band musicians
  • Music teachers
  • Band directors
  • Music-loving families
  • High school and college musicians
  • Graduating band students

It could make a memorable graduation gift, birthday gift, recital gift, or Christmas gift for a clarinet player.

There’s something special about giving a musician a handmade gift featuring the instrument they’ve spent so much time learning and playing.

Crochet a Musical Work of Art

I love designing blankets that aren’t simply practicalโ€”they’re also fun pieces of crochet artwork.

The clarinet and artistic stripes work together to create a design that can be appreciated even by someone who isn’t a crocheter.

From a distance, the bold stripes create an interesting modern pattern. Look closer, and you’ll discover the clarinet worked into the design.

That combination makes this blanket a fun addition to a bedroom, music room, band room, or anywhere a music lover wants to show off their passion.

A Fun Crochet Project

If you enjoy crocheting graphic designs, you’ll love seeing this clarinet emerge as you work through the pattern.

The combination of the instrument and the surrounding stripes keeps the project visually interesting while allowing you to experiment with color.

And because the design is crocheted directly into the blanket, there are no separate pieces that need to be attached afterward.

It’s another example of how color and carefully planned crochet can transform a simple blanket into something much more artistic.
