Easter Egg Pocket with Bunny & Chick Crochet Pattern

Do you ever see a craft that was popular in elementary school and a new crochet designs springs into your mind? That is exactly what happened to me a couple weeks ago, I immediately sat down and designed the Easter Egg Pocket with a Bunny or Chick Crochet Pattern.

Do you remember these cute paper weaving and cutting crafts from grade school? This is what was the inspiration behind the latest Easter pattern design.

I have fond memories of coming up with the best color combinations and then coloring so carefully to make the cute animals. As I sat down with my scrap yarn (which is a perfect way to use up all those leftover skeins) I fell in love with the egg pocket and cute animals.

Easter Egg Pocket Design

I love the weave look with the different colors of yarn. It just reminded me of a striped Easter Egg in spring colors. Immediately, I knew what stitch I needed to use to create this look and I already have a video tutorial of it! It is a basic block stitch that I used in my FREE Rock the Block Blanket that you can find by clicking HERE.

Crocheting this block stitch is so fun to see the weave created through the various rows. The pattern walks you through all the color changes and shape of the egg. The pocket can be made in a single color, or just 2 for a quilted look (see cream and teal sample) or add lots of colors for an Easter Egg look.

Bunnies & Chicks

After the Egg Pocket was completed I wanted a quick and simple bunny and chick pattern. The idea was to use the egg pocket as a pouch that it will slide inside of. After making several bunnies and chicks I saw how cute they turned out. Loving all the different pastel colors as they laid out, my daughter said the animals looked like sprinkles which she loves.

Tester Creations You’ve Got To See

You have to check out how adorable my pattern testers patterns turned out. I seriously adore them so much and love how many of the put a personal touch on them.

Everyone deserves a creative crochet space to relax and crochet your projects in. This can be a small corner in your living room, an entire room full of shelves and inspiration, dedicated nook in your home or if your lucky enough an entire she-shed. I was excited when Tamara from www.porch.com asked if she could share with my readers her Cochet Room Guide.

Enjoy this guest blog post and I hope you are inspired and excited to create your space. Then at the end, make sure to check out the link to my tutorial on making a custom room design for your space.

Crochet Room Guide

Guest Post By: Tamara Segal

Why is Crocheting Such a Popular Pastime?

Many people wonder how to start doing crochet, and in the past years, it has become more popular because it is an excellent and fun way to make perfect presents for others and pieces for your home and wardrobe. There are a lot of benefits it has for your life. It reduces stress, anxiety, and the risk of Alzheimer’s and helps stimulate dopamine, and, in this way, allow us to feel happier and better.

After you have become more familiar with the delicate art of crocheting, learning a few basic stitches, and starting with basic yarns and patterns, you will need some essential tools, and why not, creating a room or space for you to have your own crochet oasis at home.

Before you begin, gather your crocheting supplies.

For this, you will not need to gather so many supplies; you can just start with the basics. The main item is a crochet hook, and there are plenty of sizes and types available. The most commons are the aluminum ones when beginning, but the most important thing is that you feel it comfortable in your hands. The three basics supplies are:

  • Crochet Hooks
  • A ball of wool or acrylic yarn
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

There are many types of yarn as well, but by using some of them and the hooks, you will discover by yourself which one you like the most (and will also depend on what you are crafting). With some time, you’ll become a pro and start adding some items to your essentials list, but with these basics, you are ready to start getting into the crocheting hobby!

Crochet Tools

How to create the crocheting room of your dreams

A little imagination and resourcefulness are all it takes to transform any room in your home into your dream crocheting space. You can use the pieces that you have made for the room or space décor. Whether you enjoy your crochet crafts on a comfy couch or in a spacious spare bedroom, use these DYI tips to transform your space into a creative oasis.

Crochet Room Guide

Make sure your space is comfortable.

When spending some time doing crocheting, as it is very manual, you need to keep a comfortable position to avoid back, neck, and arm pain. You can do it on a sofa, a recliner, or even a comfy oversized chair where you can sit for hours if you are a crochet lover.

Nothing better than a calm and tranquil environment to boost imagination and creativity.

As every time we try to find space for a new hobby at home, the first thing is to find the right spare room or corner where you will be working and start by decluttering it so you can have an organized space that boosts your productivity.

Always be proud of the space you are dedicating to your crochet making; keep it tidy, so it’s always ready to use. Love your room, knowing it is for you alone! To have the ideal space, you do not need a whole room or a wall of yarn; sometimes, you need a little corner (although we can always dream bigger, can’t we?).

Crochet Room Design

Go with your own inspiration and experience.

The most common projects when you are starting are headbands, cup holders, coasters, pouches, the popular and cute amigurumi, and more! With time you will be creating your own crafts, watching tutorials, learning from magazines and patterns you can find online. Just let go of your imagination and create the perfect space for you and your new crocheting hobby.

I’d like to thank Tamara for her inspiration in this great article about your Crochet Room Guide. I love how she emphasizes that you don’t need an entire wall of yarn, just the basics. Carve out your space, make it tidy and inspiring and have fun.

Make sure you check out my Tutorial on how I made my space in my new home office by clicking HERE.

The tutorial includes how I used some simple crates from Hobby Lobby and a photo frame to create this simple little display. It made an ordinary office look like it was made for a crochet lover.

Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

I love playing with popular stitches and trying to make them unique and put a twist on them. I had an idea in my mind and was trying to come up with a fun stitch and ended up creating a knotted stitch while crocheting the Herringbone stitch.

Fall in love with the bold texture and soft cushy feel to the stitch. So, I jumped in and quickly designed a fun infinity cowl and coordinating ear warmer pattern. I am so excited to share with you the Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer crochet pattern.

Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer Crochet Pattern

About the Herringbone Knotted Cowl & Ear Warmer

I love crocheting any herringbone stitch but I like to put a new spin on stitches or on the way they are used. I fell in love with the way these knotted stitches appeared see how or bold they look while feeling so soft and warm. You will fall in love with making this cowl and then you will want a matching ear warmer to go along with it.

Herringbone Knotted Stitch

The pattern can be worked holding 2 strands of a very light worsted weight yarn together (I used Mighty Stitch which is very close to a DK weight yarn). Or you can use a heavy worsted weight yarn to make the set. Then have fun with the colors and scramble them up as I did (details on color changes are in the pattern) or make it a solid color or use a self striping or ombre yarn, the possibilities are endless for different looks with this pattern.

About the Pattern

The pattern comes in One Size Fits Most for the cowl and an Adult sized Ear Warmer/Headband pattern.

The cowl can be worn multiple ways as shown below, I just can’t decide which is my favorite.

See my Testers Samples

I had some of my pattern testers share their tests with me and I love the colors they used and how each one shows an entirely different personality.

Winter Wishes Cowl – Crochet Pattern

The popular Winter Wishes Scarf and Headband inspired another design using the same rich textured stitches. The Winter Wishes Cowl is made as an oversize cowl that is so warm and cozy.

The Cowl can be made with or without fringe so it will suit your style. Have it lay nicely capping the shoulders for a warm layer or wear it as a triangle scarf (more of a hang around the neck) for a cozy feel. Either way, you will love the look.

Winter Wishes Cowl

About the Winter Wishes Cowl Pattern

The pattern comes in three sizes for adults: small, medium, large/Xlarge. The Winter Wishes Cowl works up quick. It is made with a worsted weight (#4) yarn and is crocheted with a size I (5.50 mm) hook or crochet hook J (6.00 mm) depending on the size you make.

The cowl is crocheted as a flat piece that is stitched together at the end to create the wrap. A full photo tutorial on how to add fringe is also included.

Make the cowl in a solid color for a bold look or switch it up with self-striping yarn or ombre for a fun twist. Check out some of the samples made by my pattern testers below:

Winter Wishes Ear Warmer – Crochet Pattern

My top selling pattern in 2020 was the Winter Wishes Scarf. The texture is amazing and it is a fun design so I decided to add to the collection and make a coordinating Winter Wishes Ear Warmer pattern.

The ear warmers are made in a rich mustard yellow and show off the amazing textures that are created in the stitches.

About the Winter Wishes Ear Warmer Pattern

The pattern comes in three sizes from child up to adult. The ear warmers work up quick with a worsted weight (#4) yarn and is crocheted with a size I (5.50 mm) hook.

Switch up the color, add striping yarn or ombre for an entirely new look. Check out some of the samples made by my pattern testers below:

Christmas Tree Skirt Crochet Pattern Round Up

With the holidays quickly approaching so many of us are thinking of what to crochet to make this year stand out. A few years ago I designed a tree skirt pattern and now it is my favorite thing to put out at Christmas. It sets the mood before the gifts are piled under the tree and is there with happy memories once they are all opened.

A handmade Tree Skirt is something that I know will be handed down in my family and will bring back so many memories. I know this, because I still love seeing the one I grew up with under my parents tree when I visit each year. I know when my kids grow up and leave my home (sniff, sniff, it will be here before I’m ready), I will make one for them their first year in their own home… because I am keeping mine-LOL!

Christmas Tree Skirt

Christmas Tree Skirt Styles

Tree skirts can be all different designs, shapes and colors. But, they all set the mood for your holiday decor. I rounded up some of my favorite designs, even my daughter helped me pick these out.

Some tree skirts remind me of older generations, some remind me of my own style and some reminds me of what young generations would adore. But, they all bring a smile to my face and a sense of jolly kindred spirits in whoever is lucky enough to receive one of these as a gift this year.

I hope you love them as much as I do and consider making one as a gift to give to someone you love or even to yourself. So, sit down and grab your favorite hook and decide which design will be your heart and soul in your next make.

Christmas Tree Skirt Crochet Patterns

Making a Tree Skirt is one of those handmade items that will be handed down through generations. Find the one that you love, there are so many different styles and looks you are sure to find one that is perfect for you home.

Free Thanksgiving Table Setting Crochet Patterns

Fall is here, temperatures are dropping and we are seeing pumpkin spice everywhere. That means that the holidays are fast approaching. One of my favorite holidays is Thanksgiving and the Thanksgiving Table. I love having a day that you really focus on all that we are thankful for with our family and friends.

This year we are especially grateful for all that we have. It’s been a bit of a rough year for everyone and we all need to make this Thanksgiving a little extra special. Sit down and bring a touch of handmade into your Thanksgiving Feast.

Thanksgiving Table Setting Crochet Patterns

Thanksgiving Table Setting

Thanksgiving is focused around the meal, the turkey, gravy, potatoes, dressing, sweet potatoes, cranberries, homemade rolls and of course pumpkin pie. We all have our favorites and they bring back so many memories. This year as you plan your menu, take some time to plan the decor as well.

I have collected some of my favorite free crochet patterns that I think would make a classy Thanksgiving table setting this year. No cheesy turkeys and pumpkins (although I do think they are fun to include). Find the right placemats, coaster, flatware holder, centerpiece and/or table runner to make your table feel a little extra special this year.

So, sit down and grab your favorite hook and decide which design will fit your style the most! Enjoy.

2020 Crochet Cancer Challenge – All October Long

October marks the month of Cancer Awareness and I am so excited to host another year of the Crochet Cancer Challenge. This has been an annual event that began in 2014, seven years later it has grown due to the generosity of the crochet community.

Crochet Cancer Challenge

Our crochet community does so much for others by making handmade items and in this event those said items are all donated. Donations go to cancer patients or cancer centers in our own communities. We have this amazing opportunity to make a difference one hat at a time.

A Quick Overview of the Cancer Challenge

During the month of October a different crochet pattern designer will be featured. The designers has personally designed a hat in honor of someone they know, or to help bring awareness to a specific type of cancer. They will offer their design for FREE for 1 day only. If you download their pattern, you are taking a pledge to make a minimum of one hat from that pattern to donate.

Cancer Challenge Pledge

The Crochet Cancer Challenge has become so personal to so many of you and to so many of us designers. I appreciate all the time and efforts everyone puts into this event. I hope to spread the word this year, so I am asking that you share photos of your finished hats on social media or links to the challenge AND always use the #CrochetCancerChallenge . The more people see our challenge, the more it will grow and that means the more people we can touch in a positive way. We can all use a little more positivity in our lives in 2020.

Crochet Cancer Challenge

Daily Crochet Cancer Challenge Features

Each Day I will post a new designers hat link. You can then go to their site to read about who or what cancer they designed the hat for. Once again, each design will be free for 24 hours, but you must use code “CancerChallenge” to get the pattern free. Look for this button in their blog post:

2020 Final Pledge Count

Let’s just face it, 2020 has been a crazy year. Some of us are stuck at home with time on our hands. Some are stuck at home juggling working with our kids around and/or helping them with online school. We are all in our own world of craziness.

Plus, some Cancer Centers were not taking donations due to COVID. So, I didn’t have any idea how our pledges would be. I am very excited to say that, although it wasn’t our biggest year, it was pretty darn close!

October 2020Features

Below you can see all the gorgeous designs that were featured in this years Crochet Cancer Challenge. The code to get them for free has expired. However, you can still grab them from the links and support the designers. I hope you enjoyed the challenge and making each hat to give away and brighten someone’s day. Grandioso Guitar Crochet Blanket Pattern

I have always felt that music is an important part of life. The best way to appreciate music is to play an instrument. Growing up I took piano lessons for 5 years. Now as a Mom, all 3 of my children play an instrument.

When a musician learns to read, play and perform music, they gain mental, cognitive and emotional health benefits that will last throughout their lifetime.

MusicNote.com

The benefits of music amazes me, if your interested in reading more about the benefits of music, click HERE.

Guitar

Here my son is playing at his first guitar holiday recital. He was so cute and so proud of his performance. I cannot wait to see and hear many more.

Grandioso Guitar Blanket

My guitar player is my 2nd son, he loves trying new songs out and is a great musician. He is a very cheerful kiddo and so I was immediately drawn to the Red Heat Roll with It Melange (color: Paparazzi). Wanting different angles than the violin, I had the silhouette split center of the guitar by to one side of the blanket for a unique look. The blanket is reversible (all the designs are) so the guitar can be on the left or the right side.

The name Grandioso was suggested by, Chasity, as soon as I heard it I knew this had to be the official name. Grandioso is Spanish for “Great” and this just fits this blanket and the kiddo it was designed for.

Grandioso Guitar

The Grandioso Guitar Blanket is a fun, funky, unique, modern and classic blanket with a young vibe to it. However, any generation will love the classic design of the instruments and the music theme.

The blanket is made from the bottom up (this is NOT a C2C).

Music to My Soul Stitch Sample

I love the beautiful transition in the colors of the Red Heart Roll With It Melange yarn. It is a soft yarn and the color changes are natural, there won’t be any huge jumps in color or abrupt changes. It is a beautiful change in colors and specks, the yarn itself reminds me of sock yarn only because of this. The yarn is a worsted #4 weight.

Violin

Here my son is playing at his first Junior High Orchestra Concert. This was his 3rd year playing and the improvement every year is astonishing!.

Vibrato Violin Blanket

The Violin was my first design that I crocheted. My oldest son really wanted me to use purple and the Red Heart Roll with It Melange (color: Autograph) was perfect. The name of this blanket is self explained, thanks to Shanan for the suggestion:

vi·bra·to/vəˈbrädō/a rapid, slight variation in pitch in singing or playing some musical instruments, producing a stronger or richer tone.”a clean, light sound without vibrato”

Vibrato Violin Blanket

The diagonal design really accentuates the violin and bow, after this blanket was completed I could hardly wait to make the next one.

The Vibrato Violin Blanket is a fun, funky, unique, modern and classic blanket with a young vibe to it. However, any generation will love the classic design of the instruments and the music theme.

The blanket is made from the bottom up (this is NOT a C2C).

Piano Recital

Here my daughter is playing at her first piano recital, she even composed her own song after only a few months of lessons. She was very nervous (if you couldn’t tell) but played so well.

Piano Pizzazz Blanket

What a fun way to describe the jazzy colors in the Piano blanket (name suggested by Angela)! My daughter is the pianist in our family and saying she is the Pizzazz in the household is an understatement-LOL.

Piano Pizzazz Blanket

The piano blanket has the keys laying along the top or the bottom edge. In my sample photos the piano keys are shown along the bottom of the blanket. However, with no adjustments the keys can lay along the top of the blanket resulting in the keys being at your hands when you pull the blanket over you!

The blanket is made from the bottom up (this is NOT a C2C). The piano blanket begins with the details in the keys, this can be a little tricky but is so worth the time. Just be patient and once you finish the first 30 rows, you get to sit back and enjoy a fun stitch that works up quick.

I wanted to emphasize to children how much I love that they all play an instrument. Therefore I combined my crochet skills and came up with the Music to My Soul Blankets.

Music to My Soul Blankets

Behind the Designs of the Music Blankets

Whenever I sit down to crochet a new design I research and see what is already out there. I saw many graph piano blankets and even some C2C guitar blankets. However, I wanted something different and needed something completely new. I was in search for a fun, funky, unique, modern and young vibe.

I finally decided on the split silhouette of instruments resulting in that modern twist. Next I knew my kids wouldn’t want traditional colors, therefore the popularity of self striping yarns was a natural pick. I couldn’t be more happy with the results.

Red Heart Roll with It Melange

One of the most difficult parts of this blanket was finding a unique stitch that would work in the graph. It was important to me to work the design from the bottom up and horizontal rows. I finally found a fun, easy and quick stitch that stacks directly on top of the stitch from the prior row. This results in the best graph with nice lines.

Howling Wolf Blanket – Crochet Pattern

The Howling Wolf Blanket is a new individual pattern that coordinates with the rest of the blanket designs in the Interchangeable Wildlife Blanket ebook. All the blanket patterns feature a striking animal silhouette that is framed with a beautiful crochet texture in a frame (border) of the blanket.

The Howling Wolf blanket was inspired by the lovely bold Native American decor that I love seeing in so many different settings. This blanket will appeal to so many different people though. It will touch everyone on a different level giving them that “warmth of home”, “weekend at the cabin” or “my native land” feel.

Howling Wolf

The design in the blanket panels features a unique feathering look to the stitches. This is actually a very easy stitch to crochet and you will love the look and feel it creates.

Howling Wolf Side Panel

The corner pieces of the Howling Wolf blanket feature a whimsical look. Resembling a dream catcher or some have said wagon wheel, this cornerstone to your blanket will set off just the right detail to make it pop!

About the Pattern

I used Lion Brand Heartland yarn for the rich burnt orange color. I love working with this line of yarn. It is soft, works up nicely, makes your stitches stand out and washes up well. For the white background color it is essential that you either use the same brand and weight of yarn, or use a yarn that has the same WIP (wraps per inch). I used Caron Simply Soft for the background resulting in 2 different yarns that worked well together.

The main silhouette panel has multiple formats in the pattern for you to choose from. A chart, or graph, is used to crochet the bear silhouette. At the end of the pattern, there is an included enlarged graph, simply print off all 4 pages and tape them together.

If you are unfamiliar with crocheting from a graph then your in luck. A supplement has been added to the pattern to assist you along the way. The supplement is a written form of the graph and is explained in a little more detail. Essentially, it states how many stitches to complete in each color. This supplement can also be used as a way to double check the accuracy of your work.
